The Writer
I am Nicole Dolder, the writer of Painted Eggs and I also
play the character of John/Joan in this Luvvies production.
I am a transsexual woman. I was born in London (a long time ago) and settled in
Scotland in 1983. In 1998 I transitioned to and not long after that underwent gender
reassignment in Brighton. I also lived as a woman for a year and a half in the 70’s,
but that went horribly wrong. The play is for a large part inspired by those events.
During the day I’m a software engineer and in my time off I write, act, film, play
and listen to music, watch movies and play badminton.
I joined The Luvvies in early 2006 and auditioned for the part of
Mrs Madrigal (Tales of the City) which was a part of their first production “A Taste
of Heaven and Hell”. Mrs. Madrigal was a dotty mid-fifties hippy trans woman, which
suited me down to the tee! In 2007 I helped out with the production of “Torch Song
Trilogy” and took the back seat so I could finish writing Painted Eggs. I am currently
the secretary of The Luvvies.
Painted Eggs originally started life a few years back as a progressive rock musical
idea. In late 2006 I decided to turn the story into a play. The original draft was
a trilogy, and today it is still a trilogy. Parts one and two are being staged this
May as a single performance, part three is still in draft form. It was early 2007
that I finally started to put the final story together. I am now in the process
of writing the film script for Painted Eggs.
To keep a link with its musical origins I asked the band Night Noise Team if they
could write some songs and play them on the nights.
I hope you will enjoy Painted Eggs as much as I have enjoyed writing it, and I am
looking forward to playing the character John/Joan.
